Cars in German Town Found Covered with Swastikas in Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Officers stated they were contacted by a resident who found a automobile in Hanau smeared with red-colored liquid

Approximately fifty vehicles have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.

Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.

Law enforcement state they were alerted late on Wednesday, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.

The substance had been placed in the form of a swastika, they added.

Law enforcement then discovered numerous other marked cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Law enforcement state preliminary tests suggest the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.

"Currently there is no lead as to its source; authorities are not yet informed of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they commented.

Municipal representatives said they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the public for information.

An important political figure said the vandalism rendered him speechless and required to be addressed promptly.

"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on social media, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a gunman focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in five years prior.
