The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Sets The Beloved Duo Versus a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 years since the first Toy Story movie debuted, establishing Pixar as a major animation studio and introducing audiences to iconic figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a glimpse into the plot but leaving fans wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a latest toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser avoids is why Woody is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a fair and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.
Surely, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Connections from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before departing for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the insignia attached to her outfit.
Hopefully she is still the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
